Bylaws Adoption

Earlier this year a committee was formed to update the NOW-NJ bylaws, last revised in 2012. The NOW-NJ State Board recommends the proposed bylaws be adopted at the NOW-NJ State Conference on September 22, 2018. For your convenience, a chart detailing changes between the 2012 and 2018 document can be found at the end of the revised bylaws.

About the candidates:

GINA MARIE SANTORE    NOW-NJ STATE PRESIDENT

Gina has devoted herself to public service with a career spanning nearly 30 years. Today, she seeks your support to add NOW-NJ leader to the various ways she serves the community. An activist in high school, she served on student council and was selected to attend Girls State in 1987. She attended Douglass College (for women) of Rutgers, the State University of NJ, and fought for Douglass to retain its degree-granting status and name. She served on the Camden County Commission for women for five years, eventually serving as its chair. She participated in the Working Women Count Initiative of the US Department of Labor at age 25.

Gina Marie is an active member of SJ NOW Alice Paul chapter, serving as Administrative VP and co-coordinator of ALICE’s List, the chapter’s endorsement committee for pro-choice female candidates. Having been endorsed in 2016 for her candidacy for Woolwich Township Committee (she was victorious in 2017), she committed herself to a larger role in advocating for women’s rights via NOW. She has attended every NOW-NJ quarterly State Board meeting since May 2017 and has taken an active role to move the organization forward in many ways. The desire to energize and improve this organization led to the formation of the slate of candidates before you today.

We can improve NOW-NJ, which improves the lives of women. We can become more relevant and responsive to today’s challenges. I humbly ask for your support.”

BRANDY STOWE    NOW-NJ STATE ADMINISTRATIVE VP

Brandy is an Experienced Small Business Owner, Social Media Campaigner, and Political Activist for Organizations and Causes that Support and Promote Equality, Diversity, and Fairness. Highly experienced in a full range of social media marketing and recruiting techniques for political movements, including: Current Acting Administrative VP for NOW-NJ, Current Executive VP for Morris County NOW, Social Media Administrator for Morris County NOW, and NOW-NJ (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), Launched the #WhyIMarch social media campaign for the Women’s March on NJ (Trenton), Social Media Coordinator for Amy Cores for NJ State Senate (District 30), Facebook Coordinator and one of the founders of Women for Justice, formally Women for Bernie Sanders.

LINDSAY CAMPBELL    NOW-NJ STATE ACTION VP

Lindsay is the President and founding member of NOW-NJ's Sussex County chapter.  If elected as our next Action Vice President, she looks forward to using her experience as both a local activist and Marketing Manager to help expand NOW-NJ's position as the state's premier source of progressive feminist leadership in the fast-paced, digitally-focused landscape of modern activism.  In addition to actively pursuing productive partnerships with other state organizations leading the way in relation to our six core areas of focus, Lindsay will work to expand and enhance our digital communications practices to enable us to deliver even more opportunities for our members to take local action to affect change here in the great Garden State!

 

MARVANN COVINGTON   NOW-NJ STATE TREASURER

Marvann is an advocate and an independent researcher who currently serves as state treasurer for NOW-NJ. She is a member of the Combating Racism Task Force (CRTF) where she spearheaded “The Personal Hygiene Impact Program (PHIP)” for the Essex County Chapter. She formally served as Vice President for Rutgers Newark student government association and is an OFA Fellow. She is Assistant VP of Global Tax at a major financial institution in New York City for ten years. She holds a graduate degree in Accountancy of Taxation from Rutgers, a Bachelor in Management and an Associate in Business Administration etc. Ms. Covington has traveled to over twenty one different countries talking to local people on varied issues of global nature. She hopes to one day dedicates her life to improving the lives of others.

TORI HARTNETT   NOW-NJ STATE SECRETARY

Tori has been serving as NOW-NJ Acting Secretary since August 2018 and is seeking election as NOW-NJ Secretary. Since joining NOW in 2016, Tori has held leadership positions within Morris County NOW, currently serving as the Morris County NOW Membership Vice President and Newsletter Editor since January 2017. She has been an active member of both Morris County NOW and NOW-NJ. This summer Tori organized a successful grocery collection for the Jersey Battered Women’s Service with Morris County NOW, and served on the NOW-NJ Communications Committee and Chapter Relations Committee.

RICK GRAY  NOW-NJ STATE MEMBERSHIP VP

Rick has served as the NOW-NJ Membership Vice President since 2012 and is seeking re-election. As a member of NOW since 2001 Rick has held a range of leadership positions within South Jersey NOW-Alice Paul including Clinic Defense Coordinator, Chairman of ALICE’s List, Data Processing Manager, and Membership Vice President. In 2010 Rick began his career on the NOW-NJ State Executive Board as the Leadership Vice President, assisting in the creation of task forces and maintaining the state leadership directory. In his current role as NOW-NJ Membership Vice President Rick maintains monthly chapter membership rosters and transaction reports, and processes new membership applications and renewals. Rick’s continued work to improve the membership documentation process has enabled NOW-NJ chapters to focus their efforts in maintaining and growing their membership.

                                                         

STACEY GILL  NOW-NJ STATE TECHNOLOGY VP

Stacey is a life-long feminist and award-winning journalist. She is co-author of two books in a New York Times best-selling series and has had bylines appear on The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, Good Housekeeping, Babble and Scary Mommy among others. Her witty quips have been featured repeatedly on the funniest parents/best of social media lists for TODAYParents, The Huffington Post, Babble and BuzzFeed. Currently, she works as a marketing copywriter for Publishers Weekly while working toward smashing the patriarchy.

DEB HUBER  NOW-NJ STATE LEGISLATIVE VP

Deb has served as the President of NOW-NJ since January, 2014. Prior to then, she was the Legislative VP starting when the position was created in spring of 2012. She has raised NOW’s profile in Trenton by attending hearings and testifying on bills of interest to NOW.  She has been a member of the NOW-NJ PAC, chair of the Women & Health Task Force, member of the Combatting Racism Task Force, and Treasurer of the Somerset-Hunterdon chapter for many years. She is thankful to NOW for what she has learned about LGBTQ+ rights, women’s economic oppression, and the commonalities between racism and sexism.
