Crowds gathered in three towns around New Jersey Tuesday to protest a recent string of restrictive abortion laws passed in several states. In Maplewood, around 200 people gathered — some with toddlers in tow and some holding signs in support of legal abortions — outside the train station where speakers stood on a park bench, addressing the crowds.

“Behind every successful woman is an abortion she didn’t regret,” one of the speakers, Mary Alice Carter, told the gathered crowd through a megaphone. “I am here today and I am able to be in the job that I’m in, in the relationship that I’m in and the mother that I am because of an abortion I had.” Other groups gathered in Somerville and Montclair.
