Are you going to #UNRally4FreeIran with North Carolina contingent? Hope to see you there! We must be their voice. Persecution ramped up again, activists are being arrested before the anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s suspicious death after she was arrested by the morality poice for not covering her hair enough. The 22 year old died in their custody and sparked months and months of protests. Join activists in New York City from Sept 13th to Sept 20th for a series of events, photo exhibitions, & demonstrations, culminating in a large rally outside the United Nations on September 19th, 2023. These activities support #IranProtests and denounce Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran who is brutally supressing women and girls and society.
The week of events, photo exhibitions, & demonstrations, culminates in a large rally outside the United Nations on September 19th, 2023. This is to support #IranProtests and denounce Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran. #UNRally4FreeIran We will urge the international community to hold Raisi and his regime accountable for crimes against the people of #Iran. The campaign in timed to coincide not only with Raisi’s expected speech at the UN but also with the anniversary of the September 2022 uprising in Iran which was sparked by the unjust murder of #mahsaamini #prosecuteRaisi
For latest from Raisi, see “Before anniversary of mass protests, Iran’s leader expresses no regrets,” 9/12/23. This is Raisi’s first interview with a Western news organization since the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody triggered public outrage last year. His arrogance and holier-than-thou attitude comes through clearly to me. The outrage at Mahsa’s death went far beyond her own Kurdish community, engulfing the country, but moving far beyond the borders of Iran – to countries around the globe. Many protests were held even in Raleigh, North Carolina. Raleigh NOW members attended a few of them, including this one on Oct 2, 2022. This article talks what sparked the protests, because protesters were also killed and later protesting children were kidnapped and worse. See “Women Murdered in Iran, Join Protest in Raleigh”
The rally begins at 10:30am, but I am sure we will be there by 10am if not earlier. The photo exhibits, rally, etc, are all at the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza in Manhattan.
A view of the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York at sunset. The United Nations site covers a sixteen acre, six block tract on Manhattan island, from 42nd to 48th Streets between First Avenue and the East River. The buildings are the 39-storey Secretariat (right), the General Assembly (center), the Council Chambers and Conference Rooms (at the river’s edge) and the Dag Hammarskjold Library.
