Calls to Action
Reproductive Freedom Act
Background: The Reproductive Freedom Act – RFA (S3030/A4848) is ground-breaking legislation that will codify the right to choose for everyone in New Jersey and will expand access to reproductive healthcare, including pregnancy-related care and abortion care, especially for historically marginalized communities.
With the new conservative majority on our Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade is in jeopardy. Further, the pandemic has highlighted existing health disparities and therefore increasing access to all health care, especially time-sensitive care like reproductive healthcare, is critical.
The primary sponsors are State Senator Loretta Weinberg and Assembly Member Valerie Vainieri Huttle. The bill has 22 co-sponsors in the Assembly and 6 co-sponsors in the Senate and enjoys the support of the Governor.
We are asking leaders of progressive and women’s groups, and their allies in New Jersey to sign their organizations on to a letter addressed to our state’s legislative leaders to advance the Reproductive Freedom Act for passage.
Like all legislation, the RFA needs to be heard in specific legislative committees before it can pass, and to make that happen, we need to speak out and put pressure on the legislators to post it in committee. The leadership in the NJ Legislature need convincing on the urgency of moving the RFA from moving in both the Senate Health Committee and the Assembly Health Committee.
